Ethics: What ethical issues have you been exposed to, negative or positive? How do they relate to the Code of Ethics and the Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession in Florida?  Did you like the way the teacher handled the situation or you would have responded to it in a different way?  Explain.

During my service learning experience, I really didn't notice alot of negative ethical issues being exposed just more postive. Throughout, my entire time in Ms. Frizzle's class I always noticed her fairness with her students. She never treated anyone different, or excluded anyone out a group activity. Only if a child wasn't on his or her best behavior, would they to deal with the consequences of their actions. Ms. Frizzle believed in treating everyone fairly and equally. One issue I did notice and thought was a little unethical was when Ms. Frizzle's boyfriend or husband came to the class one afternoon for whatever reason, and kissed her in front of the class for a couple of seconds. It wasn't just a quick peck on the cheek, it was on the lips for some seconds. I was shocked I didn't know what to do, and the kids was jus looking. So, when she noticed the children were staring she said "shows over back to work". I don't know if this would be considered unethincal, but I would think so. I also, did not like the way Ms. Frizzle handled the situation. If I was teaching a class full of impressible young kids I wouldn't act in an unprofessional way as such. So, if an incident like that was to happen in my classroom, I would apologize to my students and let them know that my behavior was not right, and I wouldn't do it again.

Overall Experience:  What schools did you visit and what grades? How do you feel about your experience this semester? How does it relate to what you thought your field experience would be like? What was your most memorable moment during this experience?

During my entire field experience, I have visited 4 schools. The school of Arts and Sciences (kindergarden), Gretchen Everhart (12-15 ages), RAA middle school (8th grade), and Bond Elementary (1st grade). I had a really good experience this year. It was very diverse, and different. I learned alot of new things, and met some awesome teachers. Although, I experience some not so good moments, the good outweighs the bad. Actually, before I began my experience I didnt't know what to expect. I was just happy to be able to sit in a classroom for the first time as an observer and not a student. My moment memorable moment of my entire experience was at Gretchen Everhart. Gretchen Everhart is a school for students with special needs and learning disabilities. So when I walked in I knew what to expect. I observed with a nice teacher and her assistants,so it was a nice observation overall. When It comes time for me to leave a little boy who's like twelve wants to kiss my hand goodbye. So I walk towards him with my hand sticking out, and he licks my entire hand!!! All I could do was stare in shock and laugh!  But on the inside I was appalled because i'm a major germ freak. So after I can back into reality, I waved my goodbyes and immediately went into the first bathroom I could find! I will never forget that moment ever.

To Teach or Not to Teach:  What are your thoughts now about the teaching profession? Have you decided whether you are going into the teaching profession or not?  What has led you to this decision (Give specific examples)?

My thoughts about the teaching profession are the same. I've always wanted to teach and I still do. Teaching is hard work and alot of patience; both traits that I have within me. My entire service learning experience has just reaffirmed my belief that teaching is for me. My aunt is a teacher, as well as my god-sister. Teaching is in my blood, nothing is going to change that.

The Influence of American Society:  Did you see the influence of the changing family, SES, bullying, alcohol, drugs, sex, sexual harassment, or other issues in your experience?

During my Service Learning Experience I did not notice any sex, alcohol, drugs, or sexual harassment behaviors. Maybe, because I was working with small children; those behaviors weren't present during my time. Of course, a small amount of bullying did occur. Kids will be kids, and want the toys someone else may have and take it. Or when you get the occasional push and shove match that needs to be taken care of. Other then that, that's the only bullying that occured. I did notice some SES pratices. If SES deals with No Child Left Behind that was definitely present during my experience. Ms. Frizzle always tried to keep every child on the same pace and level. She wanted she to make sure that every child understood what was being taught before she moved to the next subject or activity. Family is really important in helping a child grow and succeed. In order for a child to grow there has to be a strong foundation, and strong support. The foundation being the parents and immediate family. The support being preachers, church, friends, teachers, doctors etc. With a strong fondation, and sterity support, makes a beautiful structure.

Organization of schools: What purposes of school and what goals of school came to light during your ASL experience?  Discuss the types of schools you experienced. Compare and contrast the levels of schools you visited. Which characteristics of an effective school did you see?  Discuss frequent monitoring of student progress that you noted during your ASL experience.  Consider what you know about the organization of elementary, middle, junior high and high schools.  Which type of school is best suited to your academic and personal characteristics and why?

I have always believed that school was important. Although there are days when I don't want to attend I strongly believe that without schooling, it's rare for a child to be comepletely successful. I also know that although different schools may not share all the same goals in mind, I know that one goal they all share is educating children in their best possible ability. One school I did observe at was a school for children with diabilities. That was a new experience for me because I never knew there was a school in town that catered to children with disabilities. Teacher's make up different lesson plans for each child in helping them children succeed. It would be like five students to one teacher and two or three assistants and volunteers. That school is really based on helping children to become progressive adults. Another school that I observed at was the school of the arts. Children that attend this school are gifted. This is was really a hands on school by letting the children solve their own problems, and getting their own solutions. Elementary is best suited for my academic and personal characteristics because I love being around at this age level. I love working with them by helping the grow and learn more. They're still a little innocent at this age. An age I can deal with.

Productive Learning Environments:  Describe the impact of positive or negative language that you heard during your experience.  Explain how you saw time used during your experience.  Talk about how the learning environment was organized.  How were different learning styles addressed?

I had a good field experience. Although, I may have seen some things that weren't pleasant to my eyes and ears, the majority of my experience went rather well. Positive and negative language has an huge impact in how a child grows and learns. The use of tone, and expression emphasizes whether a child takes well to a positive or negative reinforcement from a teacher. One day during my experience I noticed a little girl throwing paper balls at another student. The little boy got upset and went and told the teacher. Instead of the teacher going to the little girl and addressing her like how we learned in class, she yelled across the classroom "Shanice!, you better stop playing around before I call your mom!" At this time it was quiet time and everyone was doing their assignment at their desks. When the teacher yelled that across the class, the entire class erupted in giggles and laughter; totally interrupting the positive vibe in the room. This could have been avoided if the teacher had gone to the little girl and addressed her about her misbehavior in private. ( Praise in public, scold in private) During my experience time was used in somewhat a productive and organized manor. Ms Frizzle had the rules and procedures posted on the wall so the students could see it. She also had the weekly lesson plan posted on the wall. Every activity that the class did was scheduled. From learning time to center time to recess, everything was scheduled. The majority of the time Ms. Frizzle was really aware of her classroom. She demonstrated a high level of withitness. She knew what was going on in her class without even looking up from grading papers. Ms. Frizzle was an organized teacher. Not every student in a classroom learns the same way. So for students who where more visual learners she had worksheets they could use to follow along. And for students who were more hands on learners, she provided blocks so the students could follow along with the lesson.

Effective Instruction: What classroom management skills did you see?  Did you note any negative transition patterns we discussed?   Describe an example of a pedagogical cycle you observed or in which you participated.  What levels of questioning did you see according to the application of Bloom’s Taxonomy?  Which models for effective instruction did you experience?

One classroom management skill I did see was when Ms. Frizzle addressed misbehavior when it occured. When a little boy was running in class after she said no running, she immediatley went to the student and gave him a warning for his misbehavior. Ms. Frizzle also used different methods to get the children's attention after a group activity. She would clap her hands in a appealing tune and they would repeat it or she would count backwards from ten, to give them time to bring there voices to a minimal. Fortunately, I didn't notice any negative transition patterns. Ms. Frizzle really suck to her daily lesson plan. Once one activity was about to end, she would introduce the next one. She did that to cause less confusion and chaos. From what I have experienced so far with my field experiences I have observed and participated in all stages of the pedagogical cycle. One example of the pedagogical cycle I saw Ms. Frizzle use was scaffolding. She was basically introducing new information to the old information that the children already knew. An example, would be her going back over the math problems that the children learned already, or asking them if they knew it. The levels of questioning I did see according to Bloom's Taxonomy was knowledge and comprehension. The children were able to take in new information, and get to a point where the could comprehend the new information.
